Trauma and CPR Training for NNTC Staff

“Stop the bleeding… use anything you can find, a dirty rag, whatever. We can worry about an infection later, but you have to stop the bleeding first to keep them alive,” said Barb Fitzgerald, Trauma Nurse and ER Educator at MercyOne Siouxland.

NNTC Employees recently had the opportunity to learn what to do in an emergency before help arrives. It’s something no one wants to be faced with, but since our employees are at your homes and businesses, we want to make sure they’re fully prepared if the unthinkable happens.

Passing out fake leg stumps, Fitzgerald, who is also an NNTC customer, showed our staff how to pack a wound and to wrap a limb using a tourniquet.

Fitzgerald then explained CRP techniques on different size dummies. Staff pumped to the beat of the Bee Gees song, Stayin’ Alive. “Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive”.

We at NNTC feel this training empowers our employees to take action in a crisis situation, whether on the job or not. ttThank you to Barb Fitgerald and MercyOne Siouxland for providing this opportunity to our staff!
