Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company Announces Scholarship Recipient
Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company (NNTC) and The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) are proud to announce a $2,500 national scholarship that has been awarded to Ethan Kester of Clearwater, NE!
The FRS Scholarship Program awards one-time scholarships to students from rural communities for their first year of college, university, or vocational-technical school. Each student is sponsored by an NTCA member company, like NNTC.
“Providing opportunities for young people in rural communities is a core mission for FRS. We are proud to partner with NTCA member companies and generous individuals in the industry to make these scholarships possible each year. Congratulations to Ethan Kester,” said Pam Becker, Executive Director of FRS.
Ethan Kester is a 2026 graduate of Summerland Public Schools in rural Antelope County, Nebraska. Ethan plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln this fall where he plans to study Biochemistry with the goal of becoming a pharmacist and returning to serve his rural community.
“This is a surprise, a great surprise! Retail pharmacy would be great, so I can connect with people I’ve already known my whole life every day. This is helpful and I’m very happy,” Ethan said in front of his classmates.
NNTC’s General Manager Pat McElroy surprised Ethan during his first period American History class at Summerland Schools on Thursday, April 30.
“NNTC is proud to participate with FRS in offering these opportunities for our students. Educating our graduates makes our Smart Rural Communities stronger. Best of luck to Ethan in his future,” said McElroy.
