Congratulations to the NNTC community of Weston, Nebraska, located seven miles west of Wahoo, on your 150th Birthday! Last month, Weston hosted dozens of events to commemorate the milestone.
The celebration kicked off Friday, June 12 with an NNTC-sponsored Coffee Open House featuring homemade kolaches prepared by folks at St. John’s Church.
Later that evening, community members gathered for the opening ceremony, highlighted by the unearthing of a time capsule buried on July 4, 1976, when Weston celebrated its centennial.
After plenty of digging, the massive time capsule was lifted from the ground by crane and opened with sledgehammers. The contents were remarkably well preserved.
Among the items discovered were newspaper clippings, planning committee meeting notes, a flag, bicentennial Falstaff beer, a bottle of brandy, $2 bills, stickers, buttons, an almanac, a telephone book and a Weston bicentennial plate, just to name a few.
Other activities throughout the weekend included a kolache tasting contest, water fights, a parade, a vintage baseball game and live music, giving visitors plenty to see and do.
The celebration was a wonderful reminder of the rich history and strong community spirit that continue to make Weston a special place to call home.

Plans are underway for a new time capsule to be buried in Weston this year!
